In 1868, Perov wrote one of the best of their works - "The Last Tavern at Town Gate." According to his artistic problem is closely related to the painting "Seeing the dead" and "Drowned." Perov depicted the outskirts of town in the late twilight. In a single-storey and two storey houses have the lights. Distant structure is immersed in the umbra. On pitted ruts of snow the road is a pair of sleds. Some are empty, others perched in the corner izzyabshaya young peasant woman. Nearby, in the snow - a dog. A horse chews thrown to the ground tuft hay. Away - obelisks outpost. Behind them - subtle, leaving the city sleigh.
sky, burning, lemon pure tone contrasts with a dark veil, has lain on the ground. This is - all that the artist depicted, but a small picture is full of such aching sadness that thought, barely touching the personal grief peasant, at once also refers to the general plight of the post-reform peasants.
in Russian painting liked to portray the motives of the road. Let us remember such beautiful pictures as "empty" (1872, TG) Pryanishnikova or "Reverse" (1896, TG) Arkhipova, but from a sense caused by the opening in front of vast distance, they can not compare with a picture of Perov, although the motion of a sleigh and not depicted by the artist. Achieve a similar experience he had surely passed through the contrast between the power of illumination of the earth and sky at a certain moment of sunset. Correct their ratio is the main reason the impact of the picture on the viewer.
Perov not knowingly broke the forefront of any one bright spot: a horse shows a dark suit, black dog. Tint in the sky amazingly clean, why it seems to be close to the weight of the earth transparently.
again should pay attention to the skillful use of chiaroscuro artist in composite construction paintings: smooth line of the road goes up the hill, lighter in the foreground snow gradually darkens to a horizon. Dimly lit from within windows quite dim compared with the glowing sky. \u0026lt;...>
In this picture, Perov reached the pinnacle in mastering the purely beautiful craftsmanship. We're not talking about the portraits, but in genre painting, he did not develop further their success in creating a purely emotional impression produced by the Black and White and color solution composition.
